An English cottage of Marte Marie Forsberg and The Wind in The Willows.

This picturesque English cottage of a talented photographer, cook, and story teller Marte Marie Forsberg looks like it was specially created for making these gorgeous pictures.  However it turned out to be a cozy home for life and work.

While preparing this post about her English cottage, I realized that I can’t resist adding several quotes from a children’s novel called “The Wind in The Willows” by Kenneth Grahame. I think these quotes fit the story much better than any of my words. Would you rather agree with me?

The Wind in the Willows.

“Home! That was what they meant, those caressing appeals, those soft touches wafted through the air, those invisible little hands pulling and tugging, all one way.” (The Wind in the Willows  by Kenneth Grahame)

“There he got out the luncheon-basket and packed a simple meal, in which, remembering the stranger’s origin and preferences, he took care to include a yard of long French bread, a sausage out of which the garlic sang, some cheese which lay down and cried, and a long-necked straw-covered flask wherein lay bottled sunshine shed and garnered on far Southern slopes.” (The Wind in the Willows  by Kenneth Grahame)

“The smell of that buttered toast simply spoke to Toad, and with no uncertain voice; talked of warm kitchens, of breakfasts on bright frosty mornings, of cozy parlour firesides on winter evenings, when one’s ramble was over and slippered feet were propped on the fender; of the purring of contented cats, and the twitter of sleepy canaries.” (The Wind in the Willows  by Kenneth Grahame)

Marte Marie’s thoughts of home.

Knowing that Marie often works from home, I asked her to share what does she need in her English cottage while working and received an interesting response.

“I always open my kitchen door facing the garden when I cook, come sun or rain. It’s the most perfect soundtrack listening to the wind, the rain or just the birds outside while I cook.  My dogs always join me and they adore sitting in the opening too. Sharp knives and a great looking wooden cutting board.  With them  the cooking process becomes much much more enjoyable. And if I could add to the list in addition to this, there’s definitely something to be said about having my favorite music. It is a playlist of Aretha Franklin or Edith Piaf.  And I cant forget about access to a steaming cup of tea or a cool glass of red wine,  depending on the hour of the day. Yup, those are my musts.”

I am very grateful that Marie dedicated her time and patiently answered my questions. Her wonderful home always inspires me to look for beauty around me and enjoy the moment. Would you like to come back for more?
